Contact UsWhat is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic relapsing and remitting inflammatory disease in which thickened, red, scaly plaques appear on the skin. Common areas of involvement include the scalp, nails, hands, feet, genitals and trunk. Approximately 2% of the world’s population is affected by psoriasis; and although psoriasis can occur at any age, the majority of patients will develop prior to the age of 20.
What causes psoriasis?
Psoriasis is an autoimmune mediated genetic disease that involves a complex interaction between the innate and adaptive immune systems. A group of specific inflammatory markers have been linked to the clinical features of psoriasis. Those markers include: Tumor necrosis factors (TNF-a), interleukin-23 (IL-23), and Interleukin-17 (IL-17). These markers have now become targets for the biologic medications indicated for the treatment of psoriasis today.
How is psoriasis diagnosed?
Psoriasis can be diagnosed by its clinical features upon assessment in office. If necessary, a biopsy can be performed for confirmatory diagnosis.

Psoriasis Reviews
I’ve been to a total of 5 dermatologists in the valley over the past 10-15 years for psoriasis. Desert Sage is hands down the absolute best. Everyone, from reception, to the PAs, to Dr. Ahmed is amazing. Very communicative, knowledgeable, and friendly. I don’t have to babysit pre authorizations or prescriptions anymore and it is such a breath of fresh air! I am so happy I made the switch to Desert Sage. Highly, highly recommend!
